Broome-Chenango District Conducts Successful Child ID Program

A two-day Child ID program was conducted at the Two Rivers Fine Arts & Crafts Festival at the Roberson Center for the Arts in Binghamton, NY on September 24th and 25th. The event was led and organized by Brother John Darrow from Johnson City Unity Lodge No 970. Over the course of the festival, 36 children were processed and given ID cards and personal data CDs. Thank you to the following Brothers and friends who manned the computers or provided training for the event: Eric and Joan Vanderhorst, John Ruehlman, Scott Hause, Dick Ohmer, Sean Britton, Marty DeVault, Joe Laskoski, Paul Sawicki, and Peter Sawicki. Thank you also to Brian Lake, Operations Manager at Roberson, for the invitation to hold the ID program, as well as Brother Tom Schiptenko and Heather Black from Equinox Broadcasting and Cool 100.5 FM for including the ID program in their live radio broadcast. We look forward to making this an annual event!!

Southern Tier Flooding

Many in the area have been affected by historic flooding. The Lodge is collecting for flood relief for affected Brethren. If you feel so moved, you can contribute by mailing a check (payable to JCU 970, specifying Flood Relief on the memo line) to the Lodge. For more information, or if you are a member in need of assistance, please email the Master and Secretary.

Masonic Child Safety ID Program

We are in need of volunteers for the Masonic Child Safety ID Program. We will have a booth at the Twin Rivers Arts Festival at the Roberson Center for the Arts (30 Front St, Binghamton NY). The event will be going on this Saturday (9/24) 10am-5pm and Sunday (9/25) 10am-4pm. We need some folks to help man the booth. No specific skills are needed, all that you will need to do can be taught to you at the booth.

Look for a Masonic flag in the children's section of the festival. Contact John Darrow (607-232-0003) for additional information.

Lodge Cancelled Tonight (9/8)

Due to the state of emergency and flooding in Johnson City, we feel that the safest thing would be to cancel tonight's meeting. The next scheduled meeting is September 22nd at 7:30 pm.

We hope everyone is safe and dry.

Bus Trip To Grand Lodge

A bus trip to Grand Lodge has been planned for Wednesday, August 24th. Cost is $25 per person and includes round trip transportation (meals are not included). The trip is open Masons, their ladies and friends. This is a great opportunity to see some magnificent Lodge rooms. Please send an email to info@jcu970.org if you are interested.

Dark For the Summer

The Lodge will be dark for the months of July and August, resuming meetings in September. A summer picnic is in the works, so stay tuned for further details in the near future. Also, once the trestle board is finalized, the website will be updated accordingly.

2011 Grand Lodge Annual Communication

The 230th Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York was held on May 2nd and 3rd in New York City. I had the pleasure of attending and representing Johnson City Unity Lodge No. 970. While there, I was able to snap a few photos that I thought others might enjoy seeing. I even captured a shot of the brand new electronic voting device. In retrospect, I wish I had brought a nicer camera than that on my cell phone, but the photos I got will have to do.
