Carl Squires 50 Year Apron

On February 21, 2014, Brothers from Johnson City Unity Lodge No. 970, along with R∴ W∴ Bob Rogers, District Deputy Grand Master of the Broome-Chenango District, visited the home of Brother Carl Squires to present him with his 50 Year apron, and enjoy the fraternal fellowship that is an integral part of Masonry. Among the visiting Brothers were Carl's grandson, and recently raised Master Mason, Brother Adam Nesbitt, Brother Shawn McMahon, Carl's son in law, Brother Daniel Ralston a long time family friend, and W∴ Joshua Copp, Master of Johnson City Unity Lodge. Grand Master's Message for Upcoming Holidays

Please see below for a message from the Grand Master of Masons in the State of New York:

Dear Brethren, Family and Friends of Freemasonry in New York ...

There are several important national holidays and celebrations in the weeks ahead and these have very special significance to us as Masons. First is Martin Luther King Day on January 20th. Though it has long been rumored that MLK intended to become a Freemason, he never did. However, some thirty three years after MLK died, the Grand Master of the MW Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Georgia made the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King a Mason in 2001 posthumously, declaring him to be a Freemason. Now there is a certifiable connection of yet another great American and our gentle Craft.

In February we honor two of our most memorable Presidents...

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays from the members of Johnson City Unity Lodge No. 970.

We hope this is a safe and enjoyable time of year for you and your family.

Masonic Angel Fund

Johnson City Unity Lodge No. 970 recently decided to sponsor a Masonic Angel Fund, making us the first Lodge in New York state to do so.

Quoting from their website:

The Masonic Angel Fund™ is the fastest-growing Masonic charity anywhere. Founded in 1998 by the members of Universal Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Orleans, Massachusetts, the "MAF" has spread to 156 Lodges in 13 states since it first offered sponsorship of affiliate Masonic Angel Funds in the summer of 2000. The Masonic Angel Fund™ is changing kids' lives - one community at a time, one child at a time.

One of the fundamental principles of the Masonic Angel Fund™ program is that 100% of the money raised by a local Lodge's Masonic Angel Fund™ stays in that community and goes to the kids. All overhead of the local MAF is covered by the sponsoring Lodge from its operating budget. There are few charity programs anywhere that can make such a claim.

The Fund provides modest assistance to children in need who do not fit the criteria for the usual social-service programs. Such assistance might be to provide a pair of glasses, a coat, shoes, field trip fees or minor health services. MAF benevolences can cover almost any need that will enhance a child's learning experience - some Masonic Angel Funds even provide scholarships for music and fine arts instruction. Applications for assistance will be fulfilled via confidential requests from local school principals, counselors and school nurses.

We look forward to working with the Johnson City Central School District to provide assistance in our community. For more information on how you can contribute or assist with this program, please contact our Junior Warden, Bro. Tom McCoy Jr.
